Apple Watch Series 10 LTPO OLED

It has been claimed that the Apple Watch Series 10 smart watches, which are expected to be released by Apple in September, may come with an LTPO OLED screen. The ElecAs reported by , current Apple Watch OLED displays use the LTPO TFT method, in which oxide is applied to only a few switching TFTs in the watch’s LTPO OLED displays. The majority of transistors and driving TFTs are based on low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) technology.

In LTPO OLED technology, the oxide will be solely responsible for conducting current across the majority of transistors and powering the TFTs. The increased use of oxide in LTPO technology compared to LTPS provides lower current leakage and smooth performance at low refresh rate. This helps reduce power consumption.

Allegedly, LG Display could surpass Japan’s JDI in producing the new LTPO OLED display technology. Apple’s other display supplier, Samsung, is also said to be participating in a development project and may join the LTPO OLED production supply chain.

It is stated that Apple’s use of LTPO OLED may spread to other products such as the iPhone. While the current generation iPhones, namely iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, use LTPS panels, Pro models use LTPO panels that support variable refresh rates.
