A new artificial intelligence video creation application called Sora was announced by OpenAI in February and attracted great attention with its application capabilities. Of course, everyone was starting to wonder when Sora would be available to everyone, and OpenAI has given a time period, although it is not clear.

When Will Sora Be Available to Everyone?

So far, OpenAI has only allowed a few invited users to try Sora. This is because the company wants to make Sora safe to use. On the other hand, OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati said, The Wall Street JournalIn a new interview with , he stated that the current plan is to take Sora public in late 2024.

One of the concerns with Sora, and indeed all text prompt-based AI tools, is where the data for large language models comes from. In the case of Sora, Murati said he used Shutterstock content licensed by OpenAI. But it declined to disclose further data sources, saying they came from “publicly available or licensed data.”

Sora can currently only create silent videos, and these clips cannot be edited during the creation process. Murati said OpenAI is working on adding audio to Sora’s clips, as well as editing tools.

There is also no information yet on how much OpenAI will charge to use Sora publicly. According to Murati, OpenAI wants to price Sora similarly to the price it charged the DALL-E 3 AI art creator. However, Mira also underlined that Sora is “much more expensive” for OpenAI in terms of power and support.
