AMD may finally be turning to artificial intelligence in gaming devices, with a company executive from AMD stating that 2024 will be a big year for GPU and CPU production.

AMD CTO Mark Papermaster said in an interview on the No Priors Podcast that the company has been working on improving hardware and software capabilities for AI for the past few years, and gaming hardware is finally ready to implement AI.

Executive Papermaster’s thoughts on AMD’s new year plans are as follows:

“This is a huge year for us because we have spent so many years developing our hardware and software capabilities for AI.” said. “We have just completed AI enabling our entire portfolio: Cloud, Edge, PCs, Embedded Devices and our gaming devices. “We are upgrading our gaming devices using artificial intelligence, and 2024 will be a really big deployment year for us.”

While Papermaster doesn’t specify how AMD will use the AI, it’s likely referring to FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR), AMD’s supersampling technology.

As is known, unlike NVIDIA’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS technology, FSR is the only supersampling technology that does not use artificial intelligence. However, NVIDA has maintained its lead since 2019 with DLSS, which has become one of the most popular upgrade methods.

It is still a matter of curiosity how AMD will use artificial intelligence and integrate it into its games or technology. We are looking forward to seeing a few innovations that AMD will make by the end of 2024.
