New Generation Cable Technology for PCIe 5.0 and 6.0 Connections: CopprLink
PCI-SIGannounced the features of CopprLink, the next generation cabling standard for both internal and external PCIe 5.0 and 6.0 connections. This new technology will provide high-speed and reliable connections, especially for data centers, storage systems and artificial intelligence applications.
Key Features of CopprLink
- PCIe 5.0 and 6.0 Support: It supports PCIe 5.0 and 6.0 technology with signal transmission at speeds of 32.0 and 64.0 GT/s.
- Two Different Cable Types:
- Internal Cable: Cables up to 1 meter in length with unshielded SNIA SFF-TA-1016 connectors for motherboard-to-add-board, motherboard-to-backplane or chip-to-chip connections.
- External Cable: Cables up to 2 meters long with shielded SNIA SFF-TA-1032 connectors for storage and data center connections. Ideal for connections to CPU-to-storage, CPU-to-memory, CPU-to-accelerator, and accelerator fabrics.
- High Bandwidth: It is designed for future bandwidth increases, and the PCI-SIG team is already working on PCIe 7.0 specifications with speeds of 128 GT/s.
By replacing OCuLink, CopprLink is expected to play an important role especially in data centers and high-performance computing applications. It can also take its place in the consumer market by competing with technologies such as Thunderbolt 5.
