An update you make for any game on Xbox consoles is usually an update file prepared for the end user. However, with a new feature, Microsoft allows some Insider users to try the updates before they are made available to the general public.

In a post on its Insider support page, the company said that members of the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring of the Xbox Insider program are waiting for a new update that includes a feature that Microsoft calls Update Pre-Download. It is stated that they can receive it. The company’s statements on the subject are as follows:

“Games that enable update pre-download support allow updates to be downloaded days before they are scheduled to be released, so you can start playing immediately when the update is released!

You can start taking advantage of this feature by selecting Games and Applications > Manage > Check for Updates.”

The change log also states that the first Xbox game to support the Update Pre-Download feature is the Insider version of Rare’s Sea of Thieves.

Currently, only Alpha Skip-Ahead members of the Xbox Insider program can try the Update Pre-Download feature. This new feature will likely be made available to Insiders first before being rolled out to all Xbox console owners.

Microsoft has not yet announced when this new feature will be available for all users. However, if you own an Xbox console and are among the Alpha Skip-Ahead members, you can experience this feature immediately.
