Meta Messenger Communities

Meta has quietly started rolling out the Communities feature for Messenger. The Communities feature allows 5,000 people to participate through shareable invitations. In Communities, you can join group chats and view the Home feed where admins can share updates and announcements.

Meta introduced Community Chats in Messenger two years ago so people in Facebook Groups could connect, but with Communities there’s now a Facebook Group to join. You don’t have to be there anymore.

Thanks to Communities, organizations, schools and even neighborhoods will be able to stay connected and informed about the latest developments that concern them. Additionally, people who share the same hobby will also be able to connect with each other.

Help page, notes that chats in Communities follow different privacy rules than your private messages. The description reads: “Because Communities in Messenger are designed for more public conversations, they do not follow the same privacy rules as your personal messages in Messenger and instead, they follow similar privacy rules as community chats associated with Facebook groups. For example, remember that all current and future members of your community can see chat content, and Meta reviews content according to our Community Standards.”

Communities are still being rolled out to users, so you may not be able to access this feature yet. If the feature is suitable for you, you will see the option to create a new community in the left menu of your Messenger mobile application.
