Sins of a Solar Empire 2 will allow games to choose from three different playable factions: Trader Emergency Coalition, Vasari Empire, and Advent Unity. The new features that will be offered in Sins of a Solar Empire 2 are listed as follows:

  • The Advent Unity race returns for Sins of a Solar Empire 2 with new items, mechanics, and two sub-factions utilizing the unique “Unity” Imperial System
  • Orbiting planets that dynamically change the map during gameplay, requiring players to gradually change their strategies as new challenges and opportunities arise
  • Advanced tactical battles and deeper combat simulation featuring tracking turrets and missiles that can be intercepted or shot down by ships
  • Small factions that grant unique abilities to players allied with them through a new influence system
  • New economy model that allows players to truly customize their world to fit their production needs
  • Capital ships that can be equipped with special power-ups to be more effective in battle
  • New in-game mod browser provides easy installation of mods and maps

Once the game is released on Steam, players will also get many new additions and improvements, including official modding tools, adding visible damage to ships in battle, more planets and environments, new voice acting tracks, AI and UI updates, and more.

The original Sins of a Solar Empire game was released in 2008 and was a sales success. Two subsequent expansions were later released for the game, followed by the standalone expansion Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion in 2013.
