NVIDIA and MediaTek Collaboration

NVIDIA and MediaTek are preparing to join forces for a series of projects that go beyond automobile infotainment systems. According to the information revealed, two giant companies are carrying out a joint work for personal computers and even game consoles.

This striking claim came from analyst Dan Nystedt. Nystedt claimed that NVIDIA and MediaTek will introduce an ARM-based AI processor for PCs in the 3rd quarter. This chip, which is expected to be released with a price tag of approximately $ 300, is quite expensive compared to existing options. Another important pillar of the cooperation is TSMC. The Taiwanese manufacturing giant is expected to produce this chip with 3nm production technology in the first half of 2025. Although the product won’t hit shelves until 2025, MediaTek and NVIDIA are expected to announce their plans at Computex next month.

Famous for its leaks XpeaGPU claims that NVIDIA is considering working with MediaTek for a game console-focused SoC. NVIDIA, which supplies Tegra chips to the Nintendo Switch, thinks the Japanese giant is too slow in releasing its products. While the Ampere-based SoC is expected to be released alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 next year, the speed at which Chinese companies introduce new products may change things for NVIDIA.

Let’s underline that this does not mean that an ARM-based chip is not suitable for a Windows-based game console. The Qualcomm Snapdragon X series has already provided the necessary optimizations for the operating system, and DirectX/Vulkan games are reported to run smoothly on this chip. Moreover, NVIDIA already has comprehensive driver support on the GPU side for Windows and Linux. What do you think will be the benefits of NVIDIA and MediaTek cooperation? Let us know in a comment.
