Google Netherlands Third Data Center

Google will invest 600 million euros in a new data center in the Netherlands. Google currently has two data centers in the Netherlands, one in Eemshaven, which opened in 2018, and the other in Middenmeer, which opened in 2020. The facility, which will now be built in Winschoten, will use the waste heat it produces for future heating networks in the region and will feature solar panels on its roof.

The new data center is part of Google’s ongoing expansion in the country. One of the unique features of the center will be its sustainability-related features. Google to run all data centers and campuses on carbon-free energy (CFE) by 2030 promised and the new Winschoten facility is part of this.

Google has not yet announced a timeline for the construction and opening of the Winschoten data center. On the other hand, many new jobs are expected to be created in the region during construction and when the facility comes into operation.

Along with the expansion in the Netherlands, Google is also expanding its global data centers. The company recently received permission for another data center in Dallas, Oregon.
