It has been claimed that Apple may get help from Google Gemini for the artificial intelligence features it plans to offer in its upcoming iPhone smartphones. BloombergAccording to the news, Apple is in talks to integrate Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence engine into the iPhone.

Both companies are reportedly in active talks for Apple to license Gemini to support some new features coming to iPhone software this year. Interestingly, according to the news, the iPhone manufacturer recently held talks with OpenAI.

Mark Gurman says: “While talks between Apple and Google continue, it seems unlikely that any deal will be announced until June, when the iPhone maker plans to hold its annual Worldwide Developer Conference event. It’s possible that the companies won’t be able to reach an agreement, or that Apple will ultimately choose to work with another generative AI provider like OpenAI. Or Apple could theoretically reach multiple partners, as it does when searching in its web browser.”

If Apple completes the deal to allow Gemini to power the iPhone’s AI features, it would build on the two companies’ existing search agreement. As you know, Google pays a certain commission to Apple to keep the search engine as the default option in Safari on Macs, iPads and iPhones. The commission is expected to be 36 percent of all search ad revenue that Google generates from Apple’s Safari browser, according to a report last year.
