Meta artificial intelligence will tag their content.

The current state of content produced by artificial intelligence on social media has become a source of concern for many people in the technology sector. The company announced today that it will begin tagging AI-based content on its Facebook, Instagram and Threads social networks within a few weeks.

Meta said in a press release that these changes resulted from the recommendations of its own Oversight Board, as well as the results and recommendations from public opinion surveys. The company states that the old artificial intelligence labeling rules were too narrow.

In previous versions, tagging for AI content was only for videos, video clips made by AI, or videos that were altered by AI tools to make it look like a person said something they didn’t actually say. However, now artificial intelligence such as Dall-E and Microsoft Designer, trained with very serious data, can produce video content as well as creating images.

Starting in May, Meta will add “Artificial Intelligence Produced” tags for artificial intelligence-generated content in social media applications. The company also says it may put a more prominent “Generated with Artificial Intelligence” label on existing content if it detects that it is likely to deceive people. This means that the tag can be in a more prominent place than it would normally appear just in the tags section of the content.

The company claims to have deployed around 100 people to find false or misleading AI-based content on its services. So if a content fact-checker comes across this type of content, they can add multiple prominent tags to the existing post.
