Threads Messaging testing

Meta has started testing the direct messaging feature for Threads, which has more than 130 million users. Meta’s test works in a way that relies on Instagram’s inbox but allows new messages to be launched from the Threads app.

The feature has started appearing for some Threads users who have reported seeing a “message” button at the top of other users’ profiles where the “mention” feature used to be. A Meta spokesperson confirmed the change, saying the company was “testing the ability to send messages from Threads to Instagram.” case.

On the other hand, it is unclear whether Threads will still have its own inbox. Instagram Head Adam Mosseri has said multiple times that he doesn’t want to create a separate inbox for Threads, opting instead to “make the Instagram inbox work” in the app. The Meta spokesperson also noted that “this is not a test of DMs in Threads.” expressed.

While there’s no real DM feature, the ability to send messages from the Threads app without having to switch to Instagram could at least make messaging from Threads a little more practical. However, checking or replying to these messages will still require users to go to the Instagram app.
