It has been claimed that the first new artificial intelligence features planned by Apple for the iOS 18 mobile operating system will not use cloud servers in any way.

Bloomberg“As the world waits for Apple’s big AI to be unveiled on June 10, the first wave of features will be rolled out entirely on-device,” Mark Gurman said in his latest Power On newsletter. It looks like it will work. This means that there are no cloud processing components in the company’s broad language model, the software that powers the new capabilities.”

According to Gurman, Apple will likely continue to offer some cloud-based AI features powered by Google Gemini or another provider. The company is reportedly in talks with companies like Google, OpenAI, and Baidu about potential productive AI partnerships. iOS 18 is not expected to include Apple’s own ChatGPT-like chatbot. On the other hand, it is unclear whether Gemini or other chatbots will be directly integrated into iOS 18.

Apple supply chain analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu say that the company is actively purchasing artificial intelligence servers. So it’s possible that Apple will offer some of its own cloud-based generative AI features in the future.
