AMD’s Roadmap

One user spotted an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU that allegedly has 3D V-Cache stacks on both Zen 4 core chips. captured.

According to a video published on Bilibili, a user reported that he has an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU with 192 MB L3 cache, meaning 64 MB more L3 cache than the standard chip. Although it is not certain whether the change made to the L3 cache is real or not, the processor showed the same 192 MB figure when tested in CPU-Z. This means it could be a permanent change, but there are other theories about this change.

Processor Claimed to Have 192 MB L3 Cache

The possibility of 192 MB L3 cache on the Ryzen 9 7950X3D CPU can be achieved by playing with the chip configuration. To achieve such a configuration, both Zen 4 CCDs in the Ryzen 9 7950X3D need to have 64 MB 3D V-Cache stacks . The two CCDs on the chip already have 64 MB of L3 cache (32 MB per CCD), and a single 3D V-Cache stack provides 64 MB of additional cache. So far, all of AMD’s Ryzen X3D CPUs have come with a single 3D V-Cache stack. Such configurations can offer up to 192 MB of L3 cache, including 64 MB from Zen 4 CCDs and 128 MB from 3D V-Cache stacks.

It’s important to note that increased cache can result in a huge performance increase, but manufacturers may have difficulty accommodating heaps of cache. Because this breaks the integrity of the cache, causing higher latencies in games. ar. In fact, this is why the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D outperforms the 7900X3D, which has a single 3D V-Cache stack on the 6-core Zen 4 CCD.

AMD had previously stated in an interview with Gamers Nexus that it was researching the dual-layer 3D V-Cache design. Therefore, it is possible that the resulting processor is an example of engineering specific to AMD’s internal testing. Another possibility is that there is a bug in the Windows operating system or the software used and the amount of cache memory is reported incorrectly.

It is not yet known whether the Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor with 192 MB L3 cache will be released. However, this discovery offers exciting clues about the future plans of AMD, which continues to push the limits of processor technologies.
