Microsoft says its Outlook app for Android can now be used to authenticate and sign in to Microsoft services like Teams, OneDrive, Microsoft 365, and Windows. announced.

Microsoft says in its blog post: “With Outlook sign-in verification, you don’t need to remember or type any passwords or use a one-time SMS code; Just use the Outlook app plus a biometrics or PIN code to confirm sign-in on your phone. This sign-in verification function will be automatically enabled when you use the latest version of the Outlook application.”

The company says this new feature will be available the next time users sign in to their Microsoft account on any device they use. Users will receive an alert asking if they want to confirm signing in to their account through the Outlook Android app. They will then see a number in the app that should match the number they see on the device they are trying to sign in to. If the numbers match, the Outlook app will allow users to access their biometrics or use their PN number to complete the signing process.

Microsoft says this method of sign-in and authentication should be more secure than just using a password or even sending SMS notifications to the user’s phone.

It is stated that the Outlook iOS application will also receive this function with a future update.
