Proton acquires Standard Notes, a privacy-conscious note-taking application announced. This is the second acquisition after Proton, the maker of Proton VPN, Proton Mail, Proton Drive and other privacy-focused services, joined forces with SimpleLogin in 2022.

Standard Notes is an end-to-end encrypted notes application with over 300,000 active users, available on desktop platforms, web and mobile devices. Proton says the two companies share the same goal of providing users with services that protect their privacy.

Despite the acquisition, Standard Notes will remain an open source and fully supported project. The company also guarantees that prices for plans that allow access to more will not change and that Proton will cover all existing subscriptions.

From now on, Standard Notes will still be a standalone service, but Proton plans to “find ways” to make Standard Notes more accessible to Proton users and create a stronger ecosystem with secure email, cloud storage, calendars, passwords, VPNs, and more. is planning.
