Spotify has been waiting for an upgrade for lossless music for a long time, but the update still hasn’t arrived. Announced in September 2021, Spotify HiFi would be a new lossless streaming layer to be released at the end of 2021. New screenshots released today reveal the HiFi interface.
Apparently, a new side panel will appear in the settings, housing Hi-Fi options. Spotify will run a connection test to see if your device can handle high-quality audio, and if it can, it’ll give you a few options. The leak suggests that this Spotify HiFi option won’t be limited to in-line connections, but instead Spotify Connect will allow for high-end streaming within your Wi-Fi network. It shows that it will be a feature that allows business.
Some speakers, like JBL’s Authentics speakers, will have this function. Spotify Connect, unlike Bluetooth in its current form, will allow music to be played on a speaker without losing lossless quality.
