Introducing Ryzen 9000 processors with Zen 5 architecture at Computex, AMD did not forget the AM4 platform that it has been supporting for years. The chipmaker is trying to keep its low-cost alternative AM4 platform alive to fend off competitive pricing pressure from Intel’s previous-generation Raptor Lake processors. The two new models coming under the Ryzen 5000XT series are designed with Zen 3 architecture, as in the past: 16 cores Ryzen 9 5900XT and 8 core Ryzen 7 5800XT.

The AM4 platform has hosted 145 CPU and APU models to date. AMD is still seeing strong sales in regions like and Latin America where the platform’s DDR4 prices are lower and AM4 motherboards are more affordable than AM5 motherboards. What does he say? However, the sale of chips will not be limited to certain regions; Global sales will begin soon.

AMD Ryzen 5000XT Series Features

We have talked about Zen 3 and Ryzen 5000 series many times so far. Let us remind you once again that these chips are produced with the TSMC 7nm process. New processors honestly do not bring major changes in terms of features. We can say that Zen 3 is now a thing of the past after Zen 4 and Zen 5 architectures. Despite this, AMD is trying to offer new CPUs with minor improvements to remain competitive in the low price segment. The production of motherboards and processors for the AM4 platform is quite cheap these days. Considering DDR4 support, Zen 3 may still be a good option for those who want to build an affordable system. Those who are on the AM4 platform but do not want to change motherboards can take a look at the new processors.

The Ryzen 9 5900XT is a 16-core CPU and should not be confused with the 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X. The top-tier 5900XT offers an extra four cores at a lower price point. Besides the core count, it has a turbo clock speed of 4.8 GHz, which is 100 MHz lower than the top-end Ryzen 9 5950X. In summary, the 5900XT offers the same number of cores as the higher-end Ryzen 9 5950X. There is also a 107W TDP value and 72MB L2+L3 cache. AMD prepared the 5900XT model as a response to the Core i7-13700K.

AMD also offers for sale the Ryzen 7 5800XT, which has 8 cores and 16 threads, the same as its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 5800X. The frequency speed is 100 MHz higher than the Ryzen 7 5800X with 4.7 GHz. Both chips share the same specifications, including 6 MB L2 cache and 32 MB L3 cache. Although the features have remained the same, the red team will ship its new CPU with a Wraith Prism cooler for free to make it more attractive.

In terms of motherboard compatibility, all AM4 motherboards that currently support the Ryzen 5000 series are also compatible with the Ryzen 5000XT series. We don’t know the details yet, but a BIOS update will probably be required. The chips are basically the same, but the microcodes are probably different.

Ryzen 7 5800XT and Ryzen 9 5900XT Performance

AMD provided some gaming performance figures comparing the Ryzen 9 5900XT to Intel’s 13th Gen Core i7-13700K. Tests were performed on a system with DDR4 memory. We see very modest returns of up to 4% on games, but price can be the deciding factor here. The 5800XT offers almost the same performance as the Core i5-13600KF in tests involving different games, and in some games we can get ahead with small differences.

Pricing and Release Date

AMD said that Ryzen 5000XT series chips will be available in July. There is no information about the price yet.
