LG Display has started mass production of the world’s first gaming OLED panel with switchable refresh rates and resolution. announced. The company states that the 31.5-inch panel has accelerated its entry into the high-end gaming display market with new concept products.

The gaming OLED panel allows users to freely choose between high refresh rate (FHD∙480Hz) and high resolution mode (UHD∙240Hz) depending on the content.

In high refresh rate mode, users will be able to enjoy games where speed and screen changes are particularly important, such as first-person shooter (FPS) or racing genres. Switching to high definition mode will deliver an incredibly immersive experience when watching movies with rich visual effects or high-definition 4K content. By comparison, traditional panels have a fixed resolution even when the refresh rate changes, limiting their versatility for multiple applications.

LG Display’s advanced solution is Dynamic Frequency and Resolution (DFR), a new technology that it independently developed. With the arrival of DFR, users will be able to choose which to prioritize between refresh rate and resolution by adjusting the image processing speed.

The company’s Gaming OLED panel is also equipped with other LG Display technologies to enhance the immersive experience. These include META Technology 2.0, which is based on the company’s Micro Lens Array (MLA) innovation, which maximizes light emission from organic materials to improve image quality. To provide more vivid sound, Thin Actuator Sound technology is used, which produces sound directly from the screen without the need for a separate speaker.

The company’s gaming OLED panels can spontaneously emit light, allowing each pixel to produce perfect blacks and realistic image quality. With its ultra-high refresh rate (480Hz), the panel also has the fastest response time (0.03ms) of any panel on the market.
