Marathon Arrives on Steam Store for Free

Marathon, the first game developed and released by Bungie, is available for free. Steam came to the store. The game was a science fiction first-person shooter that was first released in 1994 for Apple Macintosh computers and later for Windows.

Bungie announced the release of the game from the X account. announced. This version of Marathon uses the open source Aleph One engine, which was developed after Bungie released the game’s source code in 1999. Let’s also note that the game’s art assets were released as free software by Bungie in 2005.

For Steam launch, Aleph One allows players to play Marathon with the original data file. Players will also be able to play the game with more modern options such as widescreen HUD support, 3D filtering/perspective, spatial audio and 60+ FPS interpolation. This version also includes 12 Steam achievements that you can unlock. Steam states that it will soon offer the Classic Marathon 2 and Classic Marathon Infinity games.

Bungie announced in May 2023 that it would release a reboot of sorts of the Marathon series for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
